CMUA Legislative Committee

The CMUA Legislative Committee is the primary policy committee of the association.

During each two year session of the California Legislature, the Legislative Committee reviews the more than 3000 bills introduced each year. As a result, CMUA takes positions on hundreds of bills affecting publicly owned water, gas and electric utilities.

The Committee works primarily on a consensus basis. On the rare occasion when a consensus cannot be reached, any member of the Committee may appeal the position to CMUA's Board of Governors. The Board will then vote on the position.

Meetings
Membership in the Committee is open to every CMUA member. The only requirement is a commitment to review the hundreds of bills received for each committee meeting. The Legislative Committee meets approximately monthly from January to June each year.
