Committee
on Energy Services and Marketing
History
CMUA, in cooperation with the Western Area Power
Administration (WAPA) and the California Energy Commission (CEC), established
the Committee on Energy Efficiency in October 1990 to encourage and promote
the establishment and expansion of energy efficiency programs by consumer-owned
utilities. In January 1996 the Committee expanded its name to Energy Services
and Marketing.
Meetings
The Committee meets on a quarterly basis with
each meeting hosted by a different member agency. This allows committee members
an opportunity to become acquainted with other agencies' staff and operations.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Committee on Energy Services
and Marketing is to advance energy services and marketing as an effective
strategy for serving the energy needs of consumer-owned utility consumers
in a cost-effective, environmentally sensitive manner by providing a
forum through CMUA member utilities. The Committee promotes the following
activities to accomplish their goal:
- To encourage effective communications
strategies to promote energy programs, pricing and services as a competitive
advantage in the marketplace, while maintaining a commitment to the well-being
of the local community;
- To exchange information on energy efficiency
technologies and programs, promotion and marketing services, and business
energy services, and
- To develop an approach to incorporating
energy services and marketing, including energy efficiency, in consumer-owned
utilities customer service activities and resource planning efforts.
Accomplishments
Model Plan for Energy Efficiency
In June 1992, the Committee accomplished one
of its primary goals, the development of the Model Plan for Energy Efficiency.
The Plan provides policy and guidance to the consumer-owned utilities
as well as the necessary information that utility policy makers and their
staff need to develop and implement effective energy efficiency programs.
Model Energy Services Guide
In September 1996, the Committee developed the
Model Energy Services Guide to provide a framework and illustrate the
effectiveness of significant energy services in keeping and attracting customers
and promoting benefits to both customers and energy service providers.
The Guide provides consumer-owned utilities with a reference guide
of customer oriented utility services for a competitive utility market.
The Future
The Committee continues to evaluate innovative
and practical ways to provide support to all agencies in their energy services
and marketing pursuits. Any suggestions or comments for future projects may
be addressed to the Committee Chairperson.
