Director’s Message

bio2This year it has been my great pleasure to oversee and direct exciting new changes at CMUA.  These changes were intended to implement a two-fold program: 1) Increase the legislative and regulatory presence and effectiveness of CMUA; 2) Add new levels of accountability to ensure CMUA’s actions are allied with its membership and Board. I am happy to report that CMUA has made great strides in both these areas.

CMUA began the 2011 legislative session with a new legislative advocacy team led by Alicia Priego, Director for Energy and Jennifer West, Director for Water.  Both are highly respected advocates in the fields of expertise, who will ensure CMUA remains a leading voice in the State Capitol on energy and water issues.  Additionally, CMUA has added Anthony Andreoni as the Director of Regulatory Affairs and Patrick Harbison as Director for Communication.  These are new positions for CMUA, created to respond to the dizzying number of regulatory actions that impact energy and water resources and the internal and external communications needs desired from our members.  Debbie Armstrong continues her invaluable role of managing our office and coordinating CMUA events along with the development of publications.

This year CMUA has also placed added emphasis on developing new levels of accountability with our members, committees and Board of Governors.  Communication to and with members has greatly increased.  CMUA staff has redoubled its efforts to ensure that we are listening to our members on all the major policy decisions and that actions we take are supported by CMUA policies and ultimately supported by our Board of Governors.

CMUA stands ready to meet new challenges and engage on an array of legislative and regulatory issues to ensure that California has the energy and water resources it will need for the coming decades.  I look forward to working with you in the coming year.
